about

This blues tune was written back in the 1980's for Emanuel's Blues Band, but it has been through various bands and mutations since. Originally written about the lonesomeness of adjusting to city-life in a foreign country, it's now more focused on the contemporary FOMO phenomenon, albeit with a retro rotary-dial-telephone twist.
Cover stars: Nico & Ericofon

lyrics

Who Dialed My Number

I moved into the city
My age was 21
People on the radio
Said “city boys have lots of fun”
So I got a flat with a radio
and wall to wall TV
Now I hear a lot of voices
But won’t someone talk to me
(please talk to me)

And then one day
I’m sad to say
Returning from my job
The telephone was ringing
I jumped up screaming “Oh my god!”
I grabbed at the receiver
So tired of being alone
I shouted “Man here I am”
But all I heard was the dialing tone

Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who placed the call

Directory enquiries
Couldn’t help me in the least
I thought to ask a policeman
But you only get grief from the city police
So I asked around up and downtown
Spent whole days by the phone
But no one answered, no one called
And no one cares that I’m all alone

Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who placed the call

I went to see the preacher
He was talking all about sin
He said “prepare yourself for heaven boy
‘Cos if you sin they won’t let you in”
I said “Hey listen preacher”
Told what was on my mind
He said “get on your knees boy,
You’ve got Jesus on the line”

Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who placed the call

So read your paper, pay your bills
Relax and watch a show
Life can be tough, but hey guess what
You’ve only got 35 years to go
You can waste you’re time
While you try to find
Who knocked or called or rang
But Jesus? Hell, I don’t think
It’s the devil makes you sing

Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who dialed my number
Who placed the call

about

The Rayguns Copenhagen, Denmark

... more
